Mission Statement

As an educator, it is my mission to create a positive and inclusive environment where my students feel empowered to reach their full potential. I believe music is a vital part of a student's education that can open doors for students and encourages creativity, self-reflection, and critical thinking skills. I strive to instill a love of learning in my students and to inspire them to become lifelong learners once they leave the classroom.

Teaching
Philosophy

In my time as a teacher, I have had the privilege of working with a wide variety of students from preschoolers to elderly patients in assisted living facilities, and what I have seen from all my students is the same: music makes learning joyful. Music is a vehicle that allows students to express themselves, explore new ideas, and find a love of learning. I teach music in order to give all my students an opportunity to connect with music in whatever way suits them best. Whether I help an advanced student in their journey to become a classical musician, or I help an elementary student discover their love for singing in the car, my goal is to provide individualized education that is differentiated for each of my students needs and empowers them to reach their goals.

I believe music education enriches a student’s life and is one of the key factors to creating life-long learners. I consider myself a life-long learner, and my goal as an educator is to nurture this mindset in every one of my students by providing an environment where my students are excited to experiment and try new things. It is also important to me that I provide a supportive environment where my students are unafraid to make mistakes and instead see mistakes as an opportunity for growth. Music education is my way of showing my students that there is always more to learn, and they should always stay curious. I believe inspiring a love of learning in my students through something as beautiful as music leads to well-rounded individuals who can then serve their communities with an open mind and an open heart.

As an educator, it is important to me to always create a supportive and inclusive environment where my students are empowered to reach their full potential. Students are only able to thrive if they have been provided with the tools to do so, and I believe creating a safe, supportive environment is one of the biggest ways I can serve them. It is my hope that every student that enters my classroom feels comfortable to be creative and push themselves to accomplish things that they never thought possible. By creating a space where my students can practice their creativity and passion in music, they will flourish, and that creativity and passion can then flow out to the rest of their interests in both school and life. I hope to teach my students that being passionate and creative is crucial, and they will be able to take that attitude with them wherever they go.

Music has the ability to help students grow and become critical thinkers and leaders in their communities, but it also deserves to be appreciated for what it is. Music is a form of human expression unlike any other and can be used to teach students to simply appreciate beauty for what it is. It is important to me that my students are always growing and learning, however, I think it is also crucial to teach my students how to close their eyes, listen to a piece of music, and simply appreciate the beauty that life has to offer. In other words, to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. Music is one of the most powerful ways we are able to teach this to students in a school setting. Music can offer excitement, passion, and a challenge for many students, and simultaneously, it can provide comfort and a form of relief for others. Very few things in life can simultaneously fill both these roles, and this is one of the things that makes music truly special.
